Firewood from Arbworks is available in two variants, softwood or hardwood. Each are best used for different purposes.
Softwood logs mainly come from evergreen trees. These are a less dense wood than hardwood log, so, therefore, burn easier and at a quicker rate. It is best to choose softwood logs if you want to get a fire going quickly, or if you enjoy feeding the fire.
Hardwood logs are previously mentioned, are of a higher density than softwood. They often come from deciduous trees, and due to their density, they take longer to burn. They are perfect for creating a long-lasting fire and produce a better fire outdoors than softwood.
What is kiln-dried and air-dried?
Kiln-drying and air-drying are simply different ways of drying out firewood so that it has an appropriate moisture content for it to burn.
Kiln-dried firewood is dried in a kiln. This dries it out very quickly with an even moisture content. Kiln-dried firewood usually has fewer defects and burns more efficiently. From Arbworks, all kiln-dried logs will be guaranteed a moisture level of below 20% and are ready to burn on your stove.
Air-dried logs are commonly referred to as seasoned firewood logs. These are dried naturally outdoors, which takes a minimum of 12 months. Their air-dried logs will need to be stored somewhere dry after delivery, so they can further season and burn their best.
